Coaches are not permitted to pick their team or to add a new player to their team simply because they request a child. There will be NO registrations after the first game of the season. New players are assigned teams based upon the Vista Soccer Club Team Formation process. We always allow a coach to coach their own child, so long as they are the same age as the rest of the team. The same applies for the Assistant Coach. If at any time during the season a team does not have enough players to meet game minimums the coach should contact the VSC registrar. A player from another same age level team may substitute for the game.
GAME SCHEDULE AND FIELDS: Coaches are responsible to check the PYSA schedule listed at www.portlandyouthsoccer.com BEFORE EVERY GAME. PYSA's web.Scheduling and field location changes can occur at any time! Please be sure to do this or have a team parent check before every game!
PLAYER CARDS:
VSC coaches are required to assemble the official VSC/PYSA player cards for each participant (coach and player) on the team. Player cards must be present at every practice and game in order to participate. Instructions on how to assemble player cards will be given to each coach along with the cards before the first game of the season. Player cards are valid for one year and the coach is responsible to save the cards until September of the following fall season OR return hem back to the VSC Registrar. Do NOT dispose of player cards at the end of the season. Many players will need their cards for spring or summer soccer. Coaches are responsible to replace lost cards and pay the current OYSA replacement cards fee.
FIELDS AND PRACTICE TIME POLICIES:
Once PYSA advises Vista of field availability in early August, the Vista Fields Coordinator sends an email to all U7 - U11 coaches asking for practice field requests (by email). Vista usually has access to Robert Gray, Portland Heights and Healy Heights from 4 -5:30 & 5:30 - 7pm. (Earlier time slots are available if requested). All fields are shared with other teams. Two teams share Portland Heights and Healy Heights and up to four teams share Robert Gray. U10 & U11 teams usually choose to practice at Robert Gray because the fields are larger. All locations have parking and potty.
Each Head Coach emails the Fields Coordinator their top three choices (combination of field / days / times). They can select two practice days Monday / Wed (or Friday) or Tuesday / Thursday (or Friday). The number of practices each week is the decision of the coach. We strongly encourage two practices per week for U8 and up.
Example:
Choice # Location Days Time slot
1 Healy Heights Mon / Wed. 5:30 - 7
2 Healy Heights Tues / Thurs 5:30 - 7
3 Robert Gray Mon / Wed 5:30 - 7
Comments: Must have 5:30 slot - any field will due, can't do Fridays.
Coaches & Assistant Coaches must turn in their background disclosure forms in order to receive a field assignment. Fields assignments are emailed back to the coaches around the end of August. Coaches are free to practice with their teams before fields are assigned as the fields are open to the public. Each coach will receive a field permit which they should keep with them in case any field usage issues arise.
Field Issues or Hazards: All coaches are responsible for informing the Fields Coordinator of any field issues or hazards.
Vista Soccer Club Thanks you for your time and commitment!!
