Recreational Fall Soccer

AGE GROUPS: There are no geographical restrictions. Teams are formed based on grade and gender. The age divisions for our players are:

  • U7 - 1st grade
  • U8 - 2nd grade
  • U9 - 3rd grade
  • U10 - 4th grade
  • U11 - 5th grade

PARENT PARTICIPATION: Parent participation is strongly encouraged. VSC is an all volunteer club. In addition to Coach and Assistant Coach, an important roll on each team is the Team Parent. The Team Parent will be responsible to help the coach with communications, photo day, trophies, and end of season party.

UNIFORMS: Uniforms can be purchased at Far Post Soccer Supply located at 14th and Taylor in downtown Portland. A shirt, short, and socks package costs approximately $26.00. Every player must also wear shin guards and cleats (no metal cleats permitted). Inventory is determined by your answer to uniform sizing when you register your child.

PRACTICES AND GAME SCHEDULES: Most teams practice twice a  week and have a game each Saturday. The teams practice at a field assigned to the Coach by the Field Coordinator. Unfortunately, due to the high demand for fields in Portland’s West Hills, PYSA does not know which fields will be available for VSC usage until the end of August. For this reason, if coaches should want to have practices before school starts, they will have to use a park without “official permission.” If another group has a permit for the field the team will need to move their practice. Flexibility and advance scouting can make it work.

  • U7 3 vs 3 (2 simultaneous games) no goalie, plays an eight (8) week schedule
  • U8 4 vs 4 (2 simultaneous games) no goalie, plays an eight (8) week schedule
  • U9 6 vs 6, goalie, plays a nine (9) week schedule, participates in PYSA fall tournament
  • U10 8 vs 8, goalie, plays a nine (9) week schedule - participates in PYSA fall tournament
  • U11 11 vs 11, plays a ten (10) week schedule- participates in PYSA fall tournament

Portland Youth Soccer Association (PYSA) will put the game schedule on their website www.portlandyouthsoccer.com just before the season starts. Parents will need to plan on a “Jamboree” of several games the first Saturday of the season, the usually the second weekend in September. Parents will need to check the PYSA schedule each week on Friday to check for changes in schedule or venue. Schedule changes can occur at any time. Games are not usually affected by weather, except for lightning or ice.
